How to fade your hair color 101
How to fade your hair color 101
1. WASH YOUR HAIR MORE OFTEN
Basically you have to do the opposite of what we usually recommend. Washing your hair more often with hot water (and clarifying shampoo, see below!) will help speed up the fading process.
2. TAKE A DIP!
Whether it's a pool or the ocean, they work the same and will help pull your semi-permanent hair color right out!
3. SWITCH YOUR SHAMPOO
Use a clarifying shampoo! We know clarifying shampoos can cause some dryness to your hair so make sure to use our ultra-hydrating hair mask, Pool Party to lock-in moisture after!
4. VITAMIN C PLEASE
Mix some Vitamin C in your clarifying shampoo, let the mixture sit in your hair for 5 min, and then rinse it out. Vitamin C is an acid which means that it has the strength to help break up semi-permanent hair molecules, in order to get them to fade faster. As we mentioned before, if you're going this route, make sure you are using Pool Party Hair Mask after to help your hair maintain its hydration!
5. COLOR WHEEL FOR THE WIN
We know you're looking for a fast way, but if you have some time and patience, you might want to try color correcting your shade. If you're fighting to get rid of some green color left in your hair, applying reds, like a very diluted Poison, over it will help you cancel out green tones! For this to work you have to make sure your hair is already very faded! Or you can just go with just a darker shade in general, like Purple AF. Purple will cover the green, and it will fade closer to a lavender shade or back to your original color, depending on a handful of factors.
So how does the color wheel work in terms of canceling? Find your current color on the wheel, whatever color is directly across from your current color, use that shade to help cancel out your current color. IE if you have yellow hair and want to tone that, you'll add purple.
*Note: Your hair has to be very faded! Adding the opposite color can also create a muddy brown color if it's not faded.
6. SEMI-PERMANENT HAIR COLOR REMOVER
As a last resort, if you're looking to switch your color to a pastel shade and still have unwanted color, you can use a hair color remover! Make sure it's specifically made for semi-permanent color. We recommend something like Joico Color Eraser. These products do have a lightening effect on your hair, so if you're trying to prevent further damage this may not be your best choice.
