Arctic Fox Hair Color Spotlight | Iris Green

Arctic Fox Hair Color Spotlight | Iris Green

Spring has nearly sprung, Fox Fam, so our color spotlight this month is about it’s a perfect match - Iris Green! If you’ve ever been green with envy over the perfect springtime shade, read on to find out how to bring that color from the new leaves to your hair.

So who is she? Iris Green is a vibrant grass green color, perfect for all your springtime nature goddess vibes. More medium-light in tone, it’s a relatively true green but has a slightly more bluish undertone rather than yellow, making this a cooler green overall. Because it’s not super dark or highly pigmented, it will turn out best on the hair around a level 8 or lighter!

For better coverage of a darker blonde sort of base, adding a little bit of a more highly pigmented color like Phantom Green would probably be necessary ( pictured below). If used alone, it may give a slight tint of color to hair a bit darker than this, but if you’re working with a much darker base, Phantom Green would be a better option for a visible tint.

You can also add a few drops of Transylvania to a base of Iris Green for an emerald green color. Get it here.

Pre-lightening is usually necessary for Iris Green to turn out most vibrantly and accurately!

MIXES + TIPS

Iris Green also pairs very well with tons of colors for custom shades. You can easily mix Iris Green and Phantom Green in equal parts to create a more vibrant medium green tone, or start with a base of Iris Green and add a bit of Aquamarine for a bright teal!

One of our favorite mixes to create a super bright neon green is a base of Neon Moon with a dollop of Iris Green added. For a mysterious smoky purple, use Girl’s Night and a dollop each of Purple Rain and Iris Green - while it’s an odd mix, the green keeps it in a smoky purple range!

And speaking of odd mixes, check out this Electric Paradise, Porange, and just a teeny bit of Iris Green mix. Get mix here.

A diluted Iris Green makes the prettiest minty blue shade. For the best results, you would need a level 9+ base.

One of the most common issues experienced with Iris Green is the color not taking well or turning out unevenly when applied to a darker blonde base. While Iris Green is fairly bright, it is a light color overall, so it needs a relatively light base to turn out best. Further lighting would be your most reliable option in this case, but you could also add a little bit of a darker shade to Iris Green such as Phantom Green or Aquamarine to help punch up the pigmentation for better coverage without changing the tone of the color too much. If you want that lighter, more vibrant green without the smoky undertones of Phantom Green, though, Iris Green is the way to go so a lighter base will get you the closest match!
