AF Color Spotlight | Violet Dream

AF Color Spotlight | Violet Dream

We’re back with another Color Spotlight, Fox Fam, and this month we will be focusing on Violet Scream-er, Dream! Spooky Season is upon us, and Violet Dream is a quintessential color to pair with changing leaves and apple orchards. Check out some of our favorite tips and tricks to get the most out of this vibrant jewel tone!

Get this deep grape with a base of Violet Dream + a dime-sized dollop of Transylvania

Violet Dream is a vivid red-violet hue. It’s noticeably lighter and brighter than her sister shade Purple AF, but is still a pretty highly pigmented color overall! This color lives somewhere in between Virgin Pink and Purple AF. It’s definitely a purple overall but has a noticeable magenta undertone to it. Because of the strong pink undertones, Violet Dream usually will fade in a pink range and on a very light base may turn out more noticeably pink right off the bat. For the best results, use Violet Dream over level 7 or 8 hair! The color should take pretty well to a base color in more of a dark blonde range as well and will be just a few shades darker and more subtle without pre-lightening.

All AF colors can be mixed for an endless possibility of custom colors, and Violet Dream is no exception! Start with a base of Violet Dream and add a bit of Ritual for a deep yet vibrant berry tone, or add some Transylvania for a darker grape hue. Or for a vivid, true magenta, mix Virgin Pink with some Violet Dream! One of our most popular custom color mixes is our natural ginger shade that uses Cosmic Sunshine, Sunset Orange, and Purple AF; but, you can use Violet Dream instead of Purple AF in this mix for a slightly more vibrant and less muted tone if you don’t want your color to be too close to a natural hue! Need some pastels in your life? Violet Dream dilutes down to a beautiful pinkish lilac, or mixes with Sterling for a sweet smoky mauve!

One of the only issues Violet Dream tends to have is how pink it appears. If you’re applying Violet Dream over a very light base (level 9+), you can help ensure it turns out in a true red-violet range by adding a little bit of a darker shade like Purple AF to slightly deepen the hue. This will help prevent the color from pulling too pinkish, while still keeping it in a bright purple range!
